Annual Conference: Unique Virtual Experience

The Interaction Design Association (IxDA) is a globally recognized organization that has been supporting the field of interaction design for over 15 years. With a strong membership base, the association comprises 200 local groups and boasts a community of 120,000 individuals.

In 2008, IxDA held its first annual conference, the Interaction 08. The conference serves as a platform to cultivate a sense of community among interaction designers, facilitating connections, knowledge exchange, and mutual inspiration. The conference typically features a diverse range of activities, including expert roundtable discussions, live Q&A sessions, interactive workshops, group evening activities and social events over the course of three days.

In 2021, for the first time in history and due to the pandemic, the conference was crafted as an online-first event. The subsequent year saw the conference once again taking place in an online format, but this time with several enhancements. The 72-hour single stream of content consisted of shorter talks and more cognitive breaks, balancing live and recorded material. The curated program was streamed into three different time zones, accommodating the global community.

IxDA and EVERYWOW

IxDA intended to produce an online conference that delivered a unique and epic virtual experience, while at the same time maintaining the level of high quality of past physical editions, where content was curated professionally and delivered in engaging ways. To achieve this, the event was hosted out of EVERYWOW’s professional studio, whereas speakers dialed-in from all over the world.

EVERYWOW took over the entire technical production of the event and carefully planned out the show’s schedule together with IxDA, considering live and pre-recorded remote speakers. A detailed run-of-show ensured that transitions between virtual speakers were seamless, and that the show flowed smoothly from start to finish.

In addition to the technical aspects of the production, EVERYWOW’s creative director placed a strong emphasis on content development. For this, she worked closely with the keynote speakers of the conference to ensure that the show’s storyline was emotional, engaging, informative, and relevant to the target audience.

As a result, we were able to produce an online conference that not only looked and felt like a professional TV show, but also delivered engaging content that resonated with the target audience. The conference created a sense of community and facilitated knowledge sharing and mutual inspiration among interaction designers. The recorded talks were made available to the public, tremendously increasing the impact of the conference.

Let’s realise an extraordinary project together.
